Distraction

Distraction is a chamber work for Clarinet, Piano, Cello and Electric Bass that uses repeated and overlapping motives to explore themes of, well, distraction.  Inspired by Kate Bush and an exploration of pulse this piece moves between a steady 3/4 and implying other time signatures through hemiola while maintaining a driving pulse. The segmented distraction of the A section is contrasted with the singing melodic B section and is wrapped up by an abrupt ending without resolution which implies a continued cycle of distracted thoughts

Chorus w/o Words 1

This piece is composed for chorus and solo bass guitar. Inspired by rhythms and choral practices from both South Africa and Suriname this piece uses call and response and wordless vocals to accompany a solo bass which at times supports a vocal melody and at other times takes the lead and plays melodies all its own

Bird's Reel

A guitar duet in open D, this celtic inspired piece uses a simple A B structure as its backbone and gets more elaborate as it develops.
